So this is my beloved dog Roland. He came to us as a rescue in August. He was over 10 then and very sad and tired and old. The man who had him since he was a pup gave him up because he got divorced and the new girlfriend was afraid of Roland...Then he went to a rescue, then to a home with a man who ended up in jail...Then to a rescue, then to a woman he liked, but somehow, when left unattended with her 2-yr-old son, the son got bit (not severely, more like nicked)by Roland...Back to the rescue and on to a kennel, where he lived for months...It was a nice enough kennel, but a Rottweiler needs a job - people to love, a place to protect - so without that Roland became depressed, fat and very sad...When Mr. Clark came upon him at a PetSmart Adoption Day, Roland's spirit light had almost flickered out...Mr. Clark came home and said he'd seen a depressed old Rottweiler who looked like he could us our help...So, we adopted Roland. It took awhile for him to lose enough weight and take enough arthritis medicine to start feeling better...And, he had to figure out he had a job again - people to love, a house to protect...But, after a few months, the real Roland emerged - loving, goofy, protective, obedient and oh so kind. (He likes baked goods a lot, and hamburger, too...) What a big hearted wonderful boy! So, Happy Birthday, Roland! We love you so much and are so glad you came to be our dog! Given the Rottweiler life span of 9-13 years, we might not have you long, but every day with you will be precious!
